My name is Brody Duncan, i am 29 years old and i was born in the far south of New Zealand. growing up i was heavily competitive in the usual sports in Nz plus some others- cricket, rugby, field hockey and squash. It wasn’t until my final year of high school that i discovered basic whitewater kayaking through an outdoor education program. I instantly loved everything about it. I then decided to pack everything i owned and moved up to Timaru to pursue a diploma in outdoor education. This was a game changer for me, we went deep into techniques and skill of kayaking, rock climbing and mountaineering. through this course i focused heavily on whitewater kayaking and by the end of the course was comfortable paddling class 4 whitewater. I then had an opportunity to do some work experience down in Milford Sound working with one of the sea kayaking operators. My first proper go at sea kayaking, once again i loved it but at that stage mostly just for the training for whitewater and the amazing views that Milford Sound has. Once i finished my diploma i got a job with the same company, once i got my first go at joining on one of the overnight trips in Doubtful sound i was hooked on the idea of expedition kayaking. This then led to me becoming a class 5 kayaker and starting to become an expedition sea kayaker too.
